“Moonwalking” draws from the familiar geometry of Mornington Pier — its pylons descending into the wash, the water moving beneath in long, slow rhythms. Rendered entirely in monochrome, the work strips the scene of colour and returns it as something altogether more elemental: a study in light, depth, and the particular stillness that comes just before the unknown.
The layering carries a quiet drama — dark tones pressing against lighter passages, the pier structure emerging and dissolving through the composition as the eye moves across it. There is an edge to the work, but it is not aggressive. It is the edge of standing at the end of something and looking outward.
In black, white, and every gradation between, “Moonwalking” integrates with considered ease into minimal, contemporary, and dark-toned interiors — a boardroom wall, a hallway that commands attention, a living space where restraint and presence are equally valued. It holds its ground without competing, drawing the eye back repeatedly and rewarding the longer look.
At scale, the tonal depth becomes immersive — the pier receding into the wash, the composition surrounding you with the particular quiet of a coastline after dark.
A surface that draws out the full tonal range of this monochrome work — from the deepest blacks through to the finest gradations of grey and white, with the warmth and texture that only canvas can carry.
