Presented in a museum-grade gallery frame with a hand-torn floating deckled edge, “Keeping Up a Pier Glance 2” draws inspiration from the quiet pleasures of the Mornington waterfront, where the gentle sway of tall masts, the reach of a pier into still water, and the unhurried rhythm of a coastal afternoon converge. Familiar coastal elements dissolve into light and reflection, layered and reassembled into a sophisticated, semi-abstract composition defined by lightness and ease. Interweaving soft, atmospheric forms with shifting perspectives, the piece creates an expansive sense of depth that anchors a room without overwhelming it, bringing calm and a quiet sense of place. Suspended behind optical glass, the matte paper surface absorbs ambient light, giving the luminous pastel blues and subtle lemon highlights an intimate, velvety softness distinct from the high-gloss reflection of metal.
The work explores the dialogue between tall mast silhouettes and reflective coastal waters. A core palette of luminous pastel blues and subtle lemon highlights is punctuated by warm, grounding orange accents — rendering delicate structural forms and subtle light shifts with archival precision behind ultra-clear glass.
All works by Durham J White are layered photographic artworks, crafted using the artist's personal archive of original exposures to build rich, painterly depth.
