Komorebi — the Japanese word for the interplay of light and leaves — gives this work its name, and its soul.
At the centre of the composition, sunlight breaks through the forest canopy in a blaze of white and gold — a moment of pure, unexpected radiance that anchors the entire work. Around it, the landscape layers in rich autumn tones: burnt orange and amber in the mid-ground, deep green and teal in the canopy above, the whole composition held together by the warmth of a late afternoon sun that seems to burn from within.
Captured in the countryside surrounding Trentham, Victoria, the work draws from a landscape that rewards slow looking — the more time you spend with it, the more the layering reveals itself, the light shifting and deepening with each pass.
The palette is warm and enveloping — earthy ambers, burnt ochre and deep green, with flashes of teal and blue breaking through the upper canopy. A piece that brings genuine warmth into any interior, sitting beautifully against both neutral and darker tones.
At scale, the central burst of light becomes truly immersive — a forest clearing that fills the room with warmth and quiet energy.
