“The Depth of the Huts” draws from the quiet geometry of a Japanese winter — snow-covered huts receding into a layered, atmospheric composition that rewards stillness and a slower kind of looking.

The work builds in depth rather than drama. Hut forms emerge through the layering — their rooflines softened by snow, their walls carrying the cool, considered palette of a landscape held in winter’s grip. There is a sense of habitation here, of lives lived close to the ground and close to the season, rendered in a way that feels both documentary and dreamlike.

There is a mirage-like quality to the deeper layers of this work — something that shifts and surfaces the longer you look, as though the composition itself is reflected in still water.

The palette moves through cool whites and soft blues, with warm undertones of ochre and muted gold breaking through the mid-section — a reminder that even in the coldest compositions, warmth finds its way in. The work sits naturally against neutral and natural wall tones, bringing a considered stillness to any interior it inhabits.

At scale, the layered depth of the composition becomes immersive — the huts drawing you in, the snow holding you there.
