“Reminiscing” is perhaps the most quietly extraordinary work in this collection — a piece composed from over 1,000 layered photographs captured in Glenlyon, a small country town nestled between Kyneton and Daylesford in Central Victoria. And yet, it does not look like Victoria. It does not look like Australia at all.
At the base, a mirage-like quality settles into the composition — an underlying depth that hints at something just beyond reach. Structural elements emerge through the layering; rotated houses and tree lines that reveal themselves slowly, grounding the work in its true Australian origin for those who look long enough. The central palette burns with autumn warmth — reds and oranges, the rich glow of afternoon sun filtering through leaves — organic, earthy, and deeply alive.
Above, the composition shifts. A horizon line appears, flanked by silhouetted trees, and above that, white cloud structures crown the composition like snow-capped peaks, the rich corn blue below giving the feeling of vast mountain ranges stretching into the distance. At the very top, fine delicate branches descend from centre, surrounded by the softest blush of pink — the unmistakable feeling of Japanese cherry blossom in spring.
The palette moves from soft, vibrant light blues through to richer corn blues and deeper hints of midnight — punctuated by earthy browns, autumn reds, and glimpses of deep green beneath the mountain-like peaks. Every element is an illusion. Every element is real.
